Negotiating for Jobs, Salaries and Everything Else (Guide) Research Paper
Negotiating for Jobs, Salaries and Everything Else (Guide) - Research Paper Example In this similar context, several aspects need to be considered while negotiating job and salary structure among others with prospective employers. The aspects include remuneration with yearly bonuses, job responsibilities, potential salary hikes or job promotion and cost of living in accordance with salary structure that offers by an organization (Rowe, ââ¬Å"Negotiating for Jobs, Salaries and Everything Elseâ⬠). This discussion intends to prepare a plan for negotiating jobs, salary structures and other similar aspects by taking into concern certain significant factors. The factors comprise area of interests and power sources of the candidates as well as the prospective employers. I have a good friend who has recently passed out from a renowned management institute and applied for a HR manager post in a mid-sized private organization. He already faced first round of interview and is selected for this post. As a consultant, I prepared a plan for my friend when he was called for second interview round in which the organization would be discussing about his job responsibilities and salary structure. By communicating with the other members of the organization, my friend came to know that the organization would offer a salary structure that ranges between $7000 and $9000 per annum for the post. Moreover, the members also provided a brief idea about the job profile to my friend which the organization is going to offer him. When he told about the job profile and salary structure to me, I was quite surprised to hear him. The job profile is to look after the overall production function of the organization. Contextually, the job profile of a HR manager is to look after various important operational areas of an organization such as recruitment, training programs and performance appraisal relating to the entire workforce through which

Is regulation really necessary, or can all the benefits claimed for it Essay
Is regulation really necessary, or can all the benefits claimed for it be achieved through the promotion of competition alone - Essay Example National governments may regulate for a variety of reasons, including re-election and influence from economically powerful houses (Baldwin, Cave, and Lodge, 2012:16). Governments may also technically justify regulations, thus the general assumption that the regulation was in the context of public interest. However, most rationales presented are instances of market failure, thus regulation is initiated, as the uncontrollable market will produce results or behaviors against public interest. Other scenarios may present issues of market absence, or an ineffective market. One of the advancing and developing industries in the global economy is information and communication technology (ICT). The rapid growth of ICT presents concern over regulation and the possibilities of eliminating market failures, thus the rise of such regulatory bodies like the Federal Communication Commission in the US. In summary, regulation is better than competition in safeguarding public interest. Among the theory favoring regulation, include public interest theory, private interest theory, and interest groups theory. According to the public interest theory as argued by Baldwin, Cave, and Lodge, in their 2012 publication, the rationale behind regulation is to benefit and protect the public at large. The theory capitalizes on potential market failures such as monopolistic powers, externalities, asymmetric information, and strategic behaviors. It thus creates the ideology that consumers need protection from market failures and business abuses, with the assumption that regulation serves the best interests of the public through restricting potentially harmful business behaviors (Baldwin, Cave, and Lodge, 2012:164). The interest groups theory suggests that there is need for regulation for the interests of stakeholders, while the private interest theory seeks to safeguard the interest of private inte rest groups in regulation.

Getting The Extra Bit Out Of Your Employees Essay Example for Free
Getting The Extra Bit Out Of Your Employees Essay An employee is required to contribute 40 to 48 hours of productive work in terms of service or visible output. The very purpose of employment is for the employer to generate enough revenue so that he can not only pay your wages, but also make some profit for himself and retain a portion of the profits for contingencies. It is widely accepted that in most cases though the employer is required by law to pay the employee for all the 365 days of the year, the employee output is restricted to some 250 days or in that region. Thus, even when the employee is not working, the employer has to support him/her. The manufacturing sector can lay down norms to measure the output of each employee and relate it to the quantum of work produced. But, in the services sector it is difficult to quantify the output of each individual. The flow of work can also not be uniform in the case of the services sector. Evaluation: In this context, let us examine the working of a Supermarket. The flow of customers into the supermarket will vary during the day as also during the month. In most cases, the evenings will see more customers coming in, while the mornings will see fewer of them. The noon period of the day can be thinner still. Thus, we have a situation where the productive output of the employee is not available to the employer all through the 7 or 8 hours that he/she spends in the Supermarket. So, the effective throughput (actual time spent in producing goods/services) diminishes to anywhere between 5 and 6 or 4 and 6 hours. The employer has to earn adequate revenue to compensate the employees and even take care of eventualities. Therefore, in most parts of the world, employers, particularly in the services sector, manage to get that extra bit of work done by each employee. Institutions, enterprises or organizations strive continuously to optimize their return on investment and use employee motivation as a major tool to achieve this. After all, it is the collective performance of employees that would manifest itself into a successful enterprise. It is not essential at all times to monetize motivation. There are several other means of motivating the employees to get optimal results. For example, in the case under discussion, we need to get an extra 30 minutes of work from each employee. The employer is unwilling to pay for that extra time or simply cannot afford to. So many terminologies and reasons will be attributed to safeguard that extra bit of money. But, heads of departments still have to achieve the desired results and with no extra money available in their hands. Conclusion: Though money is very important to employees, other factors go into employment. In the instant case, the manager can explain to the employees that by spending an extra 30 minutes after the scheduled time and reorganizing the merchandise for the next day, they will be able to start right away when they commence work on the following day. Customers walking in during the first hour will be able to transact their business quickly and this in turn will bring in more of such early customers. Another method is to address all the employees together and evolve a pattern whereby some employees can report early for work and leave at the scheduled time, some employees can shrink their breaks to accommodate the extra time required, and some can even leave late. After all, every one of us spend a lions share of the daylight hours in our respective breadwinning activity. With the correct methodology employed, getting employees to contribute 30 minutes of extra work per day can be achieved without denting the employerââ¬â¢s purse.
Employee Involvement In Organizational Development Management Essay
Employee Involvement In Organizational Development Management Essay Employee Involvement means creating an atmosphere where people have an impact on the decision making and can affect the job. It is not a term or a goal or a tool which can be practiced in a corporation in fact it can be called a viewpoint describing how one can contribute to the progress and the stable accomplishment in their job association. Because of this involvement employees are able to feel a sense of having rights and obligations through which they are able to retain their top abilities and promote an atmosphere enabling them to be more motivated and participative. How staff can be expected to get involved in decisions includes the planned facet of input and can take in such methods as idea scheme, production cells, work teams, nonstop expansion meetings, Kaizen events, remedial act processes, and intermittent discussions with the administrator. Inbuilt to most employee input processes is teaching them group efficacy, communiquà ©, and problem solving, payment systems and gai n sharing. (Heathfield, 2012) Encouraging employees to become involved: A hundred percent support cannot be projected from any person who was not himself involved in devising a change or an alteration which had an impact on his job. In any transformation, mostly ones that influence a whole group, it is not probable to engage every employee in each decision. On the other hand when change starts working; it means the association goes out of its way to manage worker involvement. Staff involvement for successful change administration creates a plan for involving people connecting everyone who will feel the force of the changes in the knowledge, preparation, decisions, and accomplishment of the change. In change management a small group of employees learn important information about change management. If they do not share that information with the rest of the workers the other employees might have difficulty catching up with them. If a small cluster makes the change management plans then the staff affected by the decisions will not have had needed time to obs erve the latest ideas. If employees are left behind a door gets opened in the change management procedure, for false impression and disagreement. Even if employees cannot affect the decision about change on the whole still they should be involved in the consequential decisions about their work unit and their work. A change process should be built that tells people when they are succeeding or deteriorating and follow up about consequences should be provided in each case. Employees who brightly work with the change should be provided with rewards. After the employees have been allowed to go through the change stages the unconstructive consequences should also be conveyed to them. Those who are resistant cannot be allowed to continue on their negative path; they will in due course have an effect on the morale of the constructive ones. The solution to this is that during the change management process an implementer should know where to say that now it is enough. (Heathfield, 2012) Relating employee involvement with company performance: According to (KAUFFMAN) , by devoting to future leaders organizations are building the foundation for success when it comes to improving worker retention as far as escalating the firms yield is concerned. A basic bottom up personnel association program is used to unite employees in the business. In order to make sure employee involvement is effective they delegate power to employees at all levels of the organization and recognize quite a few calculated initiatives through task forces to enlarge those initiatives. This practice can put plans into effect while at the same time creating an encouraging plan for the firm and can encourage the staff to construct new ideas and. The firms mission is to teach employees to offer the highest quality service to patrons and for that they need people who are motivated enough and excited about their work. They consider the idea of involvement providing mechanical preparation which drives profitability to get them mixed up in the firms dealings as w ell. Some aspects of employee involvement program and tips for starting an employee involvement plan within the firm are. Recognize the agenda scheme Generate a task force Ensure top level support Encourage and promote employee participation Keep tracking progress and keep communicating results If successful celebrate your victory Launch the involvement program Linking performance and culture transformation together? By doing so everyone can be involved in stirring up the association forward and constructing synergy and enthusiasm at all levels. By being able to advance values of input firms can join employees at all levels in the industry thus increasing competence. Capable programs can also supply opportunities for leaders of tomorrow. The dollars that are being used up in teaching employees can in fact be used up trying to engage into performance and culture transformation but how can these two be put together? Performance change initiatives are reasonable linking slow and determined attainment of skills. Culture change initiatives are zealous. They focus on modification in point of view and relationships and on the arrangement of a surrounding of truthfulness and inventiveness. (Mackin, 2005) An Employee-owner corporation chooses its own level and kind of contribution, but it must direct expectations about decisions. Employees might be expecting a definite amount of power. Organizations that can manage decision making wisely can over time strike a greater share of their human potential. Companies that do not intentionally address peoples expectations may find rising pessimism and doubt. (The Ownership Culture Report , 1998) Recognizing and dealing with barriers to change: Those resolute to arrive at brilliance come to recognize the implication of employee ownership and involvement. To be victorious in ensuring engagement, it is imperative to recognize the collective dynamics of contribution and the barriers to a participative culture. Human beings are by nature social creatures. They wish to experience a belonging sense and to be involved in something. They seek to share thoughts. They wish to partake in the common relationships that the world around them frequently promotes. If correctly guided, this combined need could be leveraged to assist organizations. This craving to bond increases with new social networking platform and technical expansion especially for youngsters. People are neurologically programmed and ethnically reinforced to share ideas. If employees do not get involved at work, they will look for other conduits to direct their imagination. Regrettably, employees are not always aware of the sharing opportunities most companies offer. (Galloway, 2010) Worker involvement as a central debate: Worker involvement has become a central debate in trade relations over the last decade. An Employer who is confronted by more and more cutthroat product markets and a greater magnitude for quality assurance and customer satisfaction must started centering concentration on attempts to enlarge and encourage employees, as well as illustrating more upon employee understanding and skill. Within the academics area, this subject has undergone a revival where researchers are inquiring whether this is really new and how it relates to HR management. (Mick Marchington, 1991) Graziers key learning points: People struggle each day with the various very real difficulties of human interaction, communication, disagreement, conviction systems, headship, inspiration and human potential, conflict to change, ingenuity, and so forth. (Grazier) Discusses what he calls the Key Learning Points as under: Everybody has things to contribute and they will if the surrounding is right. This according to (Grazier) is the effect of working with employee involvement concepts. People place limitations on other peoples understanding which is more a subliminal act than a mindful one. They usually feel that their own solutions to problems are the very best. But when they work more closely with them, particularly on front lines, they see knowledge, aptitude, skills, and resourcefulness that surprise them. Sometimes the most implausible people can come up with luminous solutions to problems. Thus they stop putting limitations on others but rather they see themselves as reservoirs of knowledge. Quoting an example a problem was being discussed with an old worker at a food company. He started discussing solutions for swiftly clearing the food material from a crammed hopper which often happened. When asked if he had ever told this idea to his manager he just smiled and said nobody asks for this kind of idea around here. This worker had spent a lifetime in the company and was retiring in a few months. How many such ideas he would be taking with him? (Grazier) The point being that people have a great deal more to present than one can realize. And if a surrounding can be constructed that is sheltered, reassuring, and encourages taking part, more of that talent will be directed toward the prosperity of the organization. When a manager fully understands this then worker participation becomes less of a function that one must perform and more of a viewpoint that one does evidently. (Grazier) The human constituent of performance is more imperative than the technological one. Organizations are a great deal of time wrapped up in the mechanical features of trade i.e. machinery, executive systems, fiscal controls, setting up, research, analysis, equipment, safeguarding, sales, supply and so on. A few are able to concentrate on motivational principals. As we talk about the implications of these questions it becomes apparent to everyone that, even though motivational principles have been taught to nearly every senior manager still whenever performance in a work group or association soars or slumps it can almost always be traced back to issues that have impacted motivation not technical issues. (Grazier) Most decisions can be radically enhanced through group effort. There are only a few reviews that have read (This person can team up well on decisions) or (This employee has a strong team building trait). More than a few supervisors have been approved over for promotion because they present a participative administration style. Victorious Managers today solve a quandary or make a choice by first looking for the opinions of others. True association can take time. But managers who persist should see their decisions improving gradually. (Grazier) Growth in employee skills: As (Green) has investigated the growth of job skill allotment using data derived from various skills Surveys. He determines the degree to which worker participation in the place of work and promotes the use of cognizance and interactive skills. He has found out that literacy, other communication tasks, and planning skills have grown particularly fast. Problem-solving skills have also become more imperative however recurring physical skills have principally remained untouched. He finds that worker partaking privileges the use of superior general skills and chipping in but substitute recurring physical tasks. A study by (Cruz, 2009) a University lecturer shows worker association programs that executives presume to add to efficacy as well as improving their record on diversity. According to investigators females and minorities are more successful and have better occupation opportunities when a self direction team or a cross training program is offered by the company. This means that companies can increase both quality and diversity at the same time with the same programs. Mostly females and minorities are stuck in low end jobs with little opportunity for proving themselves and for advancement. When companies put in place work teams and training programs, these females and minorities abruptly have more opportunities to display their skills. years of information on more than 800+ companies was able to detach the effects of independent work teams and cross preparation programs on female and minority access to management. In Cross function teams project groups from different jobs are able to m eet on regular intervals and take liability for getting the work done that has been assigned to them and thus being able to solve problems. Teams and cross training put gifted females and minority on the screen for managers and others who get to know them better and can counsel them and state their names when there is a new opening. It turns out these same programs also give new opportunities for females and minorities to stand out and get ahead. (Cruz, 2009) Managerial conversion efforts can bring about a variety of outcomes of which a few are projected for managerial survival and output while some involuntary such as susceptible stages of organizational change pessimism among employees. If we examine the role of information distribution and connection in decision making, while both these strategies have the potential to be resourceful, they rest on an imperative guess, that employees will eagerly hold on to any opportunities to become involved. (CREGAN, 2008) Understanding Organizational pessimism: Organizational pessimism is the pessimistic outlook of employees towards organizations. The main idea is that principles like genuineness and impartiality have to forgone to fulfill the interests of leadership thus leading to actions based on a hidden motive or deception (Abraham, 2000) .Recently, (Cole, 2006) defined pessimism as an evaluative verdict that stems from an individual experience. (CREGAN, 2008) This suggests that administrative pessimism can have unhelpful consequences for employees and organizations. As a result, the association that successfully manages pessimism is more likely to obtain benefits from an organizational change program. As (Bommer, 2005) pointed out that the overcoming of uncertainty toward change is mainly important because when workers have pessimism toward a planned change it leads to unsuccessful achievement and the breakdown reinforces the pessimistic beliefs. As a result, succeeding transformation initiatives are even less likely to do well. Employee involvement and equity: (Abraham, 2000) Argues that feelings of injustice differentiate worker cynics from positive employees and that open organizational infrastructure and participation may help produce a wakefulness of fairness. Furthermore, employees understanding of the association will be to a great deal affected and thus help them in getting involved and contributing to the success of the organization.

Holden Caulfied in The Catcher in the Rye :: Essays Papers
Holden Caulfied Which Character Gives Us Who He Is Holden Caulfield, the main character in J.D. Salinger?s The Catcher in the Rye, is very complex, mentally and emotionally. The readers of the novel would not be able to understand Holden as much as they do, if it was not for Holden?s deceased younger brother Allie. Although Allie is never actually met in the novel, Holden?s discussions about him and his ?conversations? with him help us understand Holden better. It may seem strange that a dead character would shed so much light on a living one, but Holden had a strong bond with Allie, one that he refuses to give up. Our first introduction to Allie is early in the book when Holden is writing a paper for his roommate Stradlater. Holden writes about his brother?s baseball mitt, a very personal object that sheds light on how much Holden loved Allie. Writing this composition provokes him to say, ?It wasn?t just that he was the most intelligent member of the family. He was also the nicest, in a lot of ways.? It becomes very clear right away that Holden loved and respected Allie, and was very sad that he was gone. As previously stated, Holden had a bond with Allie that he refuses to give up. The night after he died, Holden punched out all of the windows in the garage and even broke his hand. The signs don?t stop there, though. After Holden ordered a prostitute in New York and decided he didn?t want her services, he was feeling rather depressed. He said, ?I felt so depressed you can?t imagine. What I did, I started talking, sort of out loud, to Allie. I do that sometimes when I get very depressed.? Th is is the first major indication that Holden has rather severe emotional problems. Holden inability to give up his relationship with his brother is very interesting. One of the main reasons that Holden liked Allie so much was because of his innocence and his purity. Since Allie died at a young age, he died with innocence and he will be forever innocent. Holden never wanted Allie to change. We know this because he said, ?Certain things they should stay the way they are. You ought to be able to stick them in one of those big glass cases and just leave them alone.? Allie innocence and Holden?

Bicycle Helmets Mandatory? :: Argumentative Persuasive Essays
Bicycle Helmets Mandatory? Should bicycle helmets be made mandatory for all cyclist? That is what two elementary students asked for from their city council, an ordinance enforcing the use of Bicycle Safety helmets for children under 12. So on April 25, 2002, in Richardson, Texas, the city council had decided against an ordinance requiring bicycle helmets for children under 12. Of course they had their reasons for not passing the request made by two young girls. If they would have taken a serious look at the issue, they may have viewed it differently. Assistant City Manager Mike Wanchick said, "A helmet seems to give a false sense of security to the cyclist, who feel less vulnerable and may ride less cautiously," He then went on to add. "As a result, riders wearing a helmet are more likely to have an accident." (Post) Now, the Bicycle Helmet Safety Institute (BHSI) statistics show four states accounted for 40 percent of bicycle deaths in 2000, With Texas as one of them. Yet, Wanchick says that "our basic position is that bicycle safety is a parents' primary obligation," adding " What hurts kids are cars and we need to be working the traffic citations out there* people who are licensed to drive cars, not kids learning to ride bicycles." (Post) Even though 10 of the largest cities in Texas have bicycle-helmet ordinances including Dallas and Fort Worth. But, Richardson Texas choose to not act on this issue, but turn a blind eye to one of the silent injuries and the prevention of it by wearing a simple helmet. The BHSI say s the statistics show about 800 bicyclists die in the US every year. Plus another one in eight of the cyclists injured has a brain injury. The city also cited U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission data reports that the number of head injuries to cyclists has increased by 10% percent since 1991, even with the rise in helmet use. Cyclist has declined at the same time, the data indicated, increasing the rate of head injuries per active cyclist though the decade by 51% percent. The commission's data also shows a substantial reduction in cycling where helmet laws are in effect.
Favorite Food Essay
My favorite food would have to be a well-made juicy, all the way cooked cheeseburger. I have been eating cheeseburgers throughout my entire life. There has not been a time that I can remember where I have ever turned a cheeseburger. In the following paragraphs I will share with you my earliest recollections of eating a cheeseburger, some of my favorite cheeseburgers, and the origins of the cheeseburger itself. When I was younger I would always love when my grandparents would take me to McDonalds. I would always get their hamburger happy meal, as most of you know the happy meal consisted of a small juicy hamburger with mustard, ketchup, small diced onions, and juicy pickles accompanied by salty fries, a small toy, and the drink of your choice served in a small red cardboard box. As I grew older I started to want bigger portions of my favorite food. Every time my family and I visited my grandfather, he would make the biggest juiciest hamburgers I have ever seen. He would take a big handful of ground beef and throw it on the grill, where he would grill it to perfection. He served his cheeseburgers with two big red juicy tomatoes, diced onions, a couple of juicy pickles, ketchup, mustard, barbecue sauce, a slice of American cheese, with the outer layer consisting of freshly toasted buns. To this day I have not eaten a better tasting cheeseburger. There are numerous fast food restaurants all around the world that sell millions of delicious and juicy hamburgers every day. My personal favorite is the extremely popular Big Mac served at McDonalds. As I stated before , I grew up eating McDonaldââ¬â¢s hamburger happy meal, as I grew older I upgraded to the Big Mac. This delicious burger consists of three fresh toasted sesame seed buns, a handful of lettuce, small diced onions, two juicy ground beef patties, and it is the only hamburger that McDonalds sells that comes with Mac sauce on it. While being employed at McDonalds I soon realized that I was not the only one who loved this gigantic sandwich. I made many of these burgers everyday while working there. It is one of the few hamburgers that will leave customers fully satisfied after eating it. A very close second choice is the double quarter pounder that is also sold at McDonalds, which is also a fan favorite. This delicious burger is served with two sesame seed toasted buns, onions, pickles, mustard, ketchup, two ground beef patties, and two slices of American cheese. Both of these burgers are tasty, juicy, and delicious. There is much speculation on who created the first hamburger, many individuals and their respective families claim to have created the first hamburger. The hamburger first becomes popular in 1904, at the Worldââ¬â¢s Fair in St. Louis, Missouri. The hamburger business began in 1902, on the east side of Clarindaââ¬â¢s Courthouse Square by an old German gentleman named Ail Wahl. He almost ran all the cafes out of business because his burgers were so good. Back then, hamburgers were sold for a nickel whereas today you have to pay over a dollar. Over a century later the hamburger is being sold at almost every restaurant all across the world. The hamburger has come a long way since its humble beginnings. This concludes my report on hamburgers, which has been and always will be my favorite food. Hamburgers might not be an exotic interesting food, but they are still a widely popular and an extremely delicious dish. They are easy to prepare and cheaper than many other foods out there. In a world of constant change hamburgers are just as good, if not better since 1902
